Welcome Note

Honorable Delegates, Sponsors and Friends of LahnMUN 2011!

In the name of our staff and the United Nations Society Marburg e.V, I warmly bid you welcome to our information platform on the 10^th Lahn Model United Nations conference. We hope that you will find everything that you are looking for and are looking forward to seeing you at the conference, which will take place from the 9^th till 12^th of June, 2011.

All of us are very proud to host the decennial LahnMUN conference and it is a special honor for me to serve as Secretary General this year. I have accompanied the Model United Nations Project in Marburg and its parent UN Society for a long time and it is a truly magnificent thing to see something grow and evolve that has been fostered by some of the most dedicated and remarkable people I have come to know. Model United Nations conferences offer a unique first-hand perspective into international relations and diplomacy that usually can only be read about and which, even after all these years, still captivates me personally.

We hope to provide an experience that will not only allow you to learn and develop your skills in diplomacy, international politics and English, but will remain a notable and pleasant memory for every participant.

Model United Nations is a concept that is spreading with every passing year.  And each year there are more conferences hosted by different groups in Germany and all over the world. In result, this also poses a challenge for us to come up with interesting topics and an innovative conference. Our goal for the LahnMUN has always been to provide a simulation, that is open to everyone and a great opportunity to get started with partaking in MUNs and to „get your ears wet“, so to say, while offering a very challenging topic in the Security Council for the more experienced participants.

In light of these circumstances we took a “step back“ last year and simulated a historical Security Council. This year we intend to go in a different direction. However I do not wish to take out the suspense of this year's crisis simulation, targeted at the more MUN-experienced participants, who enjoy the challenge of a suspensefully designed international crisis.

We have further chosen the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) to be simulated for our conference as well, as it offers a wide range of topics and does not only offer Nations, but also NGOs a voice and is not only a good place to take your first steps in Model United Nations, but also offers sophisticated debates to develop your skills even further.

Finally, I would like to encourage all of you to take part in the LahnMUN 2011. Because, as valuable and an amazing experience such a conference is - in the end, every simulation subsists on the people who share their ideas and thoughts. Therefore, allow me to welcome you to our conference and express my respect and appreciation for you, as I can only extend the invitation, but you will be the ones, that will live the experience and will allow the 10^th LahnMUN to soar and be remembered as an awesome and successful conference.
