Welcome Address

Honorable Delegates, Sponsors and Friends of LahnMUN 2010!

Hereby we warmly welcome you to our information platform and to the Lahn Model United Nations, the 9th UN-Conference taking place in Marburg from June 10th to 13th 2010. It is a pleasure for me to serve as the Secretary General and to invite veterans as well as rookies to this year’s innovative simulation. But why is LahnMUN 2010 that special?

This year’s conference is dedicated to the motto “Know the past – Create the future!” since the Security Council won’t deal with current issues of global peace and security but simulate the reactions and measures of the world community to the conflict and genocide in Rwanda in 1994 on the historical basis. This topic addresses especially experienced participants.  

The second innovation is the simulation of the Organization of The Islamic Conference (OIC). The OIC is an inter-governmental organization primarily concerned with solidarity in economic, social, and political affairs and with promoting unity among the Muslim world. We are looking forward to fruitful outcomes. Last but not least I should also mention the third simulated council, the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). We hope that you contribute your crucial part to the success of LahnMUN 2010! 

We especially encourage those of you, who have not participated in a MUN before, to jump at the opportunity and to take part in this simulation, which will be a unique experience and broaden your horizon. You will be a representative of a country and negotiate global issues on behalf of your country. It is a great chance to gain a deeper understanding of international relations and diplomacy and to meet interesting and motivated people. As I have participated in several MUNs and I am still hooked on the idea of these worldwide simulations, I warmly recommend that kind of experience to you.

We are looking forward to meeting you all at the conference in June here in Marburg and hopefully we will have amazing days and a successful conference!
